Feltonville: The Impact of One Night


Feltonville was never a neighborhood in Philadelphia that was well known to many people outside of those who call it home until tragedy struck about two weeks ago.  Now the 4500 block of North Third Street has never received more attention.

A memorial for the victims of this tragedy filled with stuffed animals, candles, cards, posters and much more now spans the front more than four row homes on that block.  Many people, whether they knew the victims well or not, have visited the memorial site to offer signs of peace, respect, and community.  It should not …

Olney: A Look at the 35th Police District

Philadelphia’s 35th Police District is as busy as a police district can get. Covering from Cheltenham Avenue to Wingohocking Street and from Wister Street to Roosevelt Boulevard, it entails the areas of East Oak Lane, parts of West Oak Lane, Logan, Olney and the tip of Feltonville.

Feltonville: Three Children and Woman Killed

Three children and a woman died after being struck by a car involved in a chase between police and suspected carjackers in the Feltonville section of Philadelphia, police said.

The car crashed into the victims at Third and Wingohocking streets around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Mayor Michael Nutter and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey were at the scene, trying to calm down the angry and tearful crowd.

The victims were identified as Latoya Smith, 22, who died early Thursday of her injuries, and her daughter, Remedy Smith, 1, died Wednesday night shortly after arriving at the hospital. Aaliyah Griffin, 6, a relative …
