FMA class shows off installation during Diamond Screen

At the end of the Spring 2012 semester, students from the Media Arts Theory and Practice class displayed their exhibits in Annenberg’s Studio 2. Here, Paul Hinson displays “How to Build a Bee Box to Attract Solitary Bees.” The interactive exhibit asked viewers to remove screens from a box and place them on a framework to reveal hidden videos.

SCT celebrates class of 2012

The School of Communications and Theater held its graduation ceremony May 10 in Pearson-McGonigle Hall. Approximately 650 undergraduate students and 24 graduate students graduate this spring.

Moving Camera Olympics test cinematography skills

Medals gleaming from their necks, the proud champions celebrated their victories as John Williams’ “Olympic Fanfare” filled Annenberg Hall’s Studio 2.

The events didn’t involve javelins, running shoes or volleyballs. Instead, each competitor was strapped into a Steadicam Pilot. Their goal was to beat their fellow Film and Media Arts students in a series of competitions designed to show off their cinematographic skills.

Communication Management program launches electronic newsletter

The premiere issue of the MeSsenger newsletter, produced for students and faculty in the M.S. in Communication Management program, has been produced to further connect the graduate program’s growing community.

“Our M.S. family is thriving and we want to share timely, relevant information among them. So, a traditional newsletter format – with contemporary online delivery – enables us to enrich the M.S. experience for new and returning students and faculty every semester,” said Professor Donnalyn Pompper, STRC, director of the M.S. program.

Ad agency experience give students an ‘Edge’ in the job market

Student-run advertising agencies are few and far between, but those involved with Diamond Edge Communications say the School of Communications and Theater plays host to one of the best. After a life in TV, Lew Klein donates papers to Temple – Philadelphia Inquirer

When Lew Klein started working in broadcasting, television was not yet a household word. After a career that has run the gamut, Klein has donated his papers to Temple Libraries’ Special Collections Research Center. Margery Sly, director of the SCRC, said many of the 10,000 items would be digitized and posted online. Klein and his wife worked closely with Temple archivists for about two years to gather the material.

Symposium examines link between politics and social media

Twitter. Viral videos. Google Hangouts.

Political campaigns and the way elected officials speak to their constituents certainly has changed from the days of FDR’s fireside chats.

Political strategists and social media experts came together at the National Constitution Center April 19 for “Social Media: The New Political Background,” sponsored in part by Temple University’s Kal and Lucille Rudman Media Production Center. The panel discussion covered the vast number of communication tools available to politicians and voters alike and how technology impacts their relationship with one another.
