There are many reasons to Join DEC, and one of them is for the experience. In order for you to get a true sense of what DEC is all about, here is some experience and advice from the current students in DEC.
“I always knew about DEC, since Marra was my teacher Sophomore year. I expected to be busy in DEC and do real projects. My experience in DEC is awesome, it’s fun to be involved and focus on direction rather than design. It’s cool to see projects evolve from suggestions…. DEC taught me to have solid feedback. Be committed, be ready to have awesome pieces for your portfolio. Be ready to work for it! Collaborative, creative projects are always amazing! It’s cool to see work from a collaborative creative group.”
Sophie Mesters, Art Director
“DEC is well known among AD majors. I took it to fulfill my internship, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I just thought I was finishing up, but this was a great experience and a stepping stone for the future. It is good to work on different accounts. There is a lot of variety, so you’re not stuck on one thing… Give it your all, you know this is your chance! You’ve come so far, don’t turn back now!”
Natalie Pfaff, Art Director
“I had class with Marra my Sophomore year when I took him for Intro to Media and Society. He talked to the class and even brought a former student to come and talk to us… I expected the experience equivalent, if not more knowledgable than an internship.. My Account Manager experience was good. It was an eye opening experience. There are a lot of little details you wouldn’t expect. Make sure you allow a lot of time. This is not class, it’s like a full time job… Anything in the real world is happening here, it almost makes it easier when you get a job.”
Cali Ritson, Account Manager
“I first heard about DEC when I took Marra for Intro to Copywriting. I expected the opprotunity to work with people taking the class, and with more dedicated people in the field… As an Account Manager, it is slightly stressful, but it is rewarding when it is in motion. It helps more than anything, it is the next step before a job. It is the test before the real test.. Don’t do DEC if you have no time, expect to be working hard.”
