The Department of Journalism offers a Masters of Journalism degree (M.J.), designed for students who want to work in today’s ever-changing media environment. The program’s academic and professional course work emphasizes a multimedia/mutli-platform approach grounded in solid reporting, writing, editing, ethics and law. The program takes advantage of our urban location through extensive opportunities for real reporting and internships. Additional coursework emphasizes entrepreneurialism in journalism.
Students are able to create specialized concentrations through partnerships with departments across the university, including Geography & Urban Studies, Computer Science, Urban Education, the Arts (including music, theater, dance, art and/or film), Public Health, Political Science and Management Information Systems.
The program is especially designed for students with undergraduate majors in fields other than journalism, including liberal arts and sciences, business or communications. The M.J. program consists of 40 hours of graduate course work. Courses are offered on the University’s main campus in North Philadelphia and in Center City, Philadelphia.
